The boy who, guided by the Virgin, revealed to the Pope the dogma of the Assumption
The fantastic story of Guilles Bouhours, and the miracle that marked the pontificate of Pope Pius XII – Dogma of the Assumption of Notre-Dame.
At the age of 4, he carries a message from the Most Holy Virgin Mary, in which he is told that his mission is to go to Pope Pius XII to convey to him what the Virgin has communicated to him. Gilles Bouhours was born on November 27, 1944 in Bergerac, in the south of France. When he was only 1 year old, he was miraculously healed, through the intercession of St. Thérèse of the child Jesus. At the age of 4, he carries a message from the Most Holy Virgin Mary, in which he is told that his mission is to go to Pope Pius XII to convey to him what the Virgin has communicated to him.
Gil, since he was a child, had a lot of piety, prayed for long hours and was seen doing penance. And when he was only three years old, one day he stood in front of his father and said, “Father, the VIRGIN has given me a message that I must convey to the Pope.” I have to go and see this one.
At first, the father didn’t take things seriously, but little Gil persisted on that mission for two years. And his mother, out of curiosity, asked him what the message was. The answer was immediate: “Mom, the message is not for you, it’s for the Pope!” On one occasion, his father asked him, “Do you know who the Pope is?” GIL replies: “The Pope is the Pope and I must convey the message of the Virgin!”
Neighbors, aware of this fact, offered to pay for the boy and his father’s trip to Rome. And the year of the Lord 1949, he finally left.
During the journey, Mr. BOUHOURS had this thought, with what face would he touch the doors of the Vatican and say, “I need an audience with the Pope, but not for me, but for my 5-year-old son!” And when they got to Rome, they stayed in a French college. At first, no one was aware of his arrival, which took place on a Tuesday.
The next day, an emissary of the Pope asked at the entrance of the college if a child from the Lourdes region had stayed there.
And when the father learned this fact, he was amazed. How did the pope find out our arrival? Nevertheless, it was a relief to know that the hearing was tremendously facilitated. The interview would take place the next day, on Thursday, December 10, 1949.
A secretary receives and takes the child to speak with His Holiness the Pope, and his father has been waiting outside for about an hour.
Note: Hearings with the Pope rarely lasted more than 20 minutes.
At the end of the hearing, the same Pope, taking the child by the hand, gives the child back to his father, thanks him and says: “For some time I have been asking heaven to give me a confirmation, a clear sign of acceptance from heaven, of a dogma I want to declare.” And your son brought me a message from the Blessed Virgin Mary.”
Nothing is known about the Pope’s interview with the boy, which took place in May 1950, except what the Pontiff made known: the boy informed him, on behalf of the Mother of God, that this Lady, after her mortal life, ascended to Heaven in body and soul.
Exactly, Pope Pius XII had asked Our Lord for a supernatural sign to decide to proclaim the dogma of the Assumption of Mary. Little Gilles was the sign that Heaven gave to the Pontiff, and so, on November 1, 1950, the Dogma of the Assumption of Our Mother of Heaven was proclaimed.
From the age of four, little Gilles is allowed to take communion. Her devotion to sacrament Jesus was extraordinary. From a young age, he also expressed his desire to be a priest and missionary. On June 12, 1949, he makes his first communion and, two months later, he has the following dialogue with a well-known missionary:
– What do you want to be when you grow up?
– Priest.
– And why do you want to be a priest?
– Put Jesus in the Holy Host.
– Don’t you also love to be a missionary?
– What does missionary mean?
– He is a priest who makes Jesus and Mary loved a lot.
– Yes, yes, of course I’d like to be a missionary.
This desire has become an obsession in him, translating to an insatiable hunger for Angel Bread. He wasn’t afraid of the cold, or anything in the world, when he went to take communion.
His withdrawal was something unusual He even came – never for play, nor for pleasure – to celebrate “white masses,” that is, to recite on an altar, placed in a compartment of his house, all the prayers of the mass, as the priest says, from beginning to end, without the Consecration should take place, as it is logical, but covered with clothes that had been previously made for this purpose, considering its stature.
The sermons he preached to the people attending these ceremonies, worthy of an angel, were full of depth and fervor, without any mistake. It must be said that when he was interviewed by His Holiness Pope Pius XII, he sang the liturgical antienne “Parce Domine”, arms crossed and according to the teaching of the Holy Virgin.
One day he protested during the meal because he didn’t like soup much. He was 5 years old. His father told him that the Holy Virgin did not like it, because it was a foolish whim. The boy then ate all the soup without recalculating and when he was done, he said, “Dad, give me some more.” This soup is so good!
A small portion of a sermon Gilles delivered on September 13, 1952, is transcribed below:
“Today, we’re going to talk about the Passion of Jesus. He was in the Garden of Olives with three of his apostles. He knew very well that there was someone who was going to betray him and who was approaching him with a malicious intention. It was in the middle of the night, and Jesus was under the weight of the sins of men. And he prayed to his Father, saying, Let this cup be cut… Then, turning to his apostles sleeping, he said to them, “Cant you watch one hour with me?” Watch and pray for they are about to deliver the Son of man. »»

On February 24, 1960, Gilles fell ill, with a mysterious numbness that no doctor could diagnose. After 48 hours, and after receiving the last sacraments, the teenager (15 years old) passes away. Before expiring, he said: “I’m going to die, but don’t cry.” I’m fine and happy “Then he reached out his hands and prayed, “God, I ask you to forgive me of all my sins… My Lord Jesus Christ and real man… »
He surrendered his soul to God on February 26, 1960 at 6:00AM. On his grave are engraved these words, which he himself said:
“Love God and the holy virgin Offer them all your sufferings and you will find peace of mind. »
