They are lay people devoting our full-time efforts to promoting the Catholic faith through books, booklets, tracts, This Rock magazine, tapes, and television and radio appearances. Some have been Catholics, some have returned to the Catholic faith after having lapsed in our practice of it, and some are converts from other faiths. Staff apologists answer questions about the faith and give parish seminars.

Miles Jesu (Latin for “Soldier of Jesus”) is a form of consecrated life in the Catholic Church for the laity, known as an Ecclesial Family of Consecrated Life, whose purpose is “to instill Catholic ideals and goals in the world to further the Kingdom of Christ, making Him the Center of all human life”. The Holy Father himself is consistently promoting such forms of consecrated life as something especially inspired by the Holy Spirit for the needs of our times. 2004 marks the 40th Anniversary of Miles Jesu. Both clerics and laypersons share in the duties of governing according to the responsibilities assigned to them, and the apostolate focuses on the demands of the new evangelization
Paulist National Catholic Evangelization Association
3031 Fourth Street, NE
Washington, DC 20017-1102
In 1977 the Paulist Fathers established the Paulist National Catholic Evangelization Association (PNCEA) in Washington, DC. Founder and first director Rev. Alvin A. Illig, CSP, encouraged active Catholics to invite those with no church family to join the Catholic family of believers and also to invite inactive Catholics to return to the Church.
Today PNCEA is a national leader in Catholic evangelization, developing contemporary programs and materials for parish, diocesan and national outreach efforts.
PNCEA Programs
Disciples in Mission: An Evangelization Experience
This partnership between PNCEA and dioceses helps parishes implement the U.S. bishop’s Go and Make Disciples: A National Plan and Strategy for Catholic Evangelization in the United States. All materials are in both English and Spanish. Training for Diocesan Coordinators is held in Washington DC each September. Six dioceses (Raleigh, NC, Worcester, MA, Nashville, TN, Ogdensburg, NY, Lexington, KY and Covington, KY) are currently in their first year of partnership with PNCEA. Additional dioceses are scheduled to join each year.
Paulist Evangelization Training Institutes
PNCEA annually offers Summer Training Institutes to parish and diocesan leaders at St. Paul’s College in Washington, D.C., and upon request, presents this program in other regions of the country. Focus for 1997: Creating an Evangelizing Parish.
