“Simeon’s Moment”
by Ron DiCianni
Artist Notes: I tried to let Simeon’s face tell the story. I have a feeling Simeon embraced that baby as he had nothing else. He knew that he held the Light of the World—note the star emanating from the baby. Intertwined through them both is a map of the world—which Christ came to redeem. (Most people at that time would have through he had only come for the Jews.) Many of the lands, such as North and South America, were not even known to Simeon’s world, but God knew all along that you and I would need a Savior. I added Simeon’s tear to reflect deep joy. Upon further contemplation, I realized it could also symbolize Simeon’s knowledge of what this baby’s future held.
