The obligation to attend mass on Sunday and Holy days of obligation is satisfied only by attendance at Holy Mass (CIC #1248). Attendance means actual bodily presence in the place where the Sacrifice is being offered. Thus, following Mass on radio or television does not satisfy the obligation. Why not? Because the obligation is one of exterior and social worship, entailing by its nature that the required act should be public. The celebrant and the worshippers should come together as a congregation.
The expectation is that we will attend a complete Mass. We should also make every reasonable effort to be present, seated on time, and not leave before the final blessing and recession (Vatican Council II Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, Sacrosanctum Concilium Ch. II, The Most Sacred Mystery of the Eucharist § 56).
