A replica of the Great Seal of the United States is found on the one-dollar bill. Note the components of the design. The pyramid in the circle on the left symbolizes the strength of the Union. It was left unfinished to show that there would always be work to do for the preservation of the country. Above the pyramid the triangular Eye of Providence represents the Eye of God watching over us. Beneath the pyramid the words Norvus ordo seculorum (A new order of the ages) signify that God’s providence is the foundation of our new Republic. Annuit Coeptis means: “He [God] has favored our undertakings.” The Roman numerals at the bottom of the pyramid are dated 1776, the year of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
