Saint Bernadette (Sister Marie-Bernard) was a gifted nun, in so far as she had a talent for caring for the sick in the infirmary and preparing medications and dressing wounds of her patients.
Saint Bernadette was always able to lift the spirits of her ill patients by giving them a short reflection on the scriptures, to help them to accept their suffering.
Saint Bernadette thought that she would escape public scrutiny in the convent but unfortunately many people came who wanted to meet Saint Bernadette and to give her money.
This was a constant struggle that Saint Bernadette had the whole time that she was a living Sister of Charity.

Saint Bernadette spent many days, sometimes months confined to her bed with severe asthma and a weakened medical state due to her history of cholera.
Later she developed a tubercular tumour on her right knee which had destroyed the skin tissue down to the bone.
Saint Bernadette never complained rather saying, ‘all this is good for Heaven.’
Saint Bernadette combined her suffering to the suffering of Jesus Christ.
Saint Bernadette gave more than she took.
This beautiful girl who had the privilege to gaze upon the Mother of God 18 times.
Saint Bernadette was honourable, ethical, principled, upright and honest in everything she said and did.
Saint Bernadette only wanted to be one of the other sisters of charity and to do Gods will.
Saint Bernadette was humble and sought no attention only to give all glory and praise to her Heavenly Mother and Father.
