Ancient Aromas
Ancient East Indian philosophy was often quoted as saying, “The fragrance of a flower travels with the wind, but the odor of a holy man travels against the wind.” Christian historians attached specific smell to various saints. St. Catherine smelled of violets, St. Theresa of jasmine, St. Lydwine of cinnamon, St. Francis of Assisi of lemon, and Mother Mary of Roses. It has been said that St. Padre Pio could smell the corruption in a person’s soul. © Evangelization Station, 2010
